How your country is found

A search covers the booksellers that ship to you and shows prices in your currency, so it needs your country. Cloudflare, which serves Near Fine, looks up the country of your IP address with each request and passes it on. Near Fine reads it for that page and keeps nothing. If Cloudflare can’t tell, your browser’s language decides.

To search as if you were somewhere else, add ?country= and a two-letter code to a search address, for example nearfine.com/search?q=9780141439518&country=GB.

How visits are counted

Near Fine counts visits with Plausible, which sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It sees the page’s address, the site you came from, and your browser, device and country.

It counts unique visitors with a hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day, so no one can follow you from day to day or across sites. Sign-in links and the links in alert emails carry a key in their address, so the pages they open aren’t counted.
